St Pauls Bay Lindos Rhodes
![]() |
St Pauls Bay Lindos Rhodes is a small rocky bay about one quarter mile square just south of Lindos town. It’s about 250 yards or three minutes walk from the Kyriakos apartments.
The bay is a great place for snorkelling and is relatively shallow at about 20 feet deep. It is possible to dive off adjacent rocks with care, and you do need to be on the lookout for snorkelers and the glass bottom boat which occasionally enters the bay.
There are two beaches, one is a mix of natural sand and gravel, and the other is a manmade beach of golden sand. Both are relatively un-crowded and relaxed.
During the hot weather the sand can become so hot it is impossible to walk on it in your bare feet. Additionally some of the rocks can be sharp and have spiny sea urchins attached to them. It is a good idea to buy a cheap pair of sandals and to wear them on the beach and in the water. Most days and I was there I observed someone complaining of a cut foot, though no one was badly cut.
The small beach at the northern end of the bay has an area of about two detached houses and will accommodate about 50 people. This small beach would be the beach that is favoured by the local Greek people, and it is here that you would find a small number of topless sunbathers.

It is ideal for a small family, although there are no toilets on this beach.

There is a small a well-run cafe nestling among the rocks above the beach owned and managed by Demetrius and his sons. The day’s use of a sun shade and two sun loungers at the time of the holiday was eight Euros per day. Demetrius also provides a number of pre-inflated water Li-los free of charge to his customers, while snorkelling items may be purchased from the café.

The food is basic and well presented, and there are plenty of cold drinks and beer available. In the hot weather it is advisable to drink alcoholic beverages sparingly, and alternate the remaining drinks between mineral water fresh fruit juice and ordinary bottled water. Drinking either too much wine, or too much water by itself will make you ill. So use common sense and drink sensibly in the hot weather.
The southern beach would hold perhaps as many as 300 people with sun loungers and sun shades on the beach and on low areas stepped into the hillside. Again there are facilities in the form of a café, and there is a small toilet block close to the beach. It is claimed that St Paul landed in Rhodes by this bay and there is a small church built on the hillside in which weddings take place usually on a Friday.

One thing to be aware of is that large brown hornets frequent the warm freshwater shower area on the North Beach. Don’t swipe at them. They are only interested in drinking the water and if you ignore them, they will not attack you. You will have to exercise care though where you place your hand as they sometimes alight on the shower handle and shower head.

St. Paul’s Bay can be very scenic at night. This photograph was taken not long after a lunar eclipse in August 2008.

ST PAULS BAY IS TOTAL PARADISE IT IS ALL WE THINK ABOUT ALL YEAR AND WE HAVE BEEN 3 TIMES TO DATE SO TRANQUIL WARM SEA AND CRYSTAL CLEAR WATERS LINDOS IS PURE PURE HEAVEN BEEN ALL OVER AND LINDOS IS THE PLACE FOR US !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree Gillian. For peace and quiet and a relaxing break, I’d much rather have St. Paul’s bay to the main beach, but overall Lindos is for me a place that makes you feel like you belong. It’s hard to describe the welcome and the atmosphere. It’s like a second home. Everything is literally a short distance away and at the same time just far enough away from the busy bars, restaurants, and shops to be unobtrusive.
I am off to this amazing looking place in 11 days, staying at the Lindos view,i cannot wait, looks beautiful
i have been there before for a freinds wedding and i will be going back. st pauls bay is where i went and it is one of the bast places in the world.
LINDOS IS AMAZING AND GORGEOUS. ME AND MY FAMILY WENT THERE IN AUGUST 2010,AND YOU CAN BASICALLY SEE THE ACROPOLIS FROM THE WATER.IF YOUR THINKING ABOUT GOING,AND YOU DO GO THEN MAKE SURE YOU JUMP ON A DONKEY AND RIDE UP TO THE ACROPOLIS.
we got married at the chapel,so romantic and my wife and i would live there if we could.
Demetrius’s Taverna is the Jewel of Lindos. Once found, never to be forgotten. 5 very happy early evenings (8 > 11.30 pm) spent in the company of this totally amazing man and his friends/staff/family. Drinking, eating & learning to play backgammon. The best ‘aperitif’ to a great night out in the best village on the planet, Lindos.
Many thanks, my friend.

im thinking of getting married in st pauls chapel, would anyone recomend it?
Yes, it’s a lovely place..very romantic. You would probably be best to get in touch with lindosweddings.co.uk
for more information. I don’t know them personally, but they appear well recommended and I have featured
their video on the site.
Mark
love it to bits
I completely agree with Tony i got married there and we return every year for our anniversay. The hotel staff at Lindos View remember us every time we go. Just wish i could live there. Would recommend getting marroed there to anyone we did it through our travel agents and everything was just as planned. A truly memorable day.
I love your blog.. very nice colors & theme. Did you create this website yourself or did you hire someone to do it for you? Plz respond as I’m looking to create my own blog and would like to find out where u got this from. appreciate it
Thanks Gerda. The theme is named on the bottom header and I think you can pick it up free online, however the colour scheme, and display styles were tweaked by myself to my own preferences. The photographs are my own taken while on holiday in 2008.
No doubt that St Paul’s Bay is an absolute gem – and Demetrius’ cafe/bar gives a truly warm welcome. What a lovely family! Gen – the chapel would be a lovely place to get married (very picturesque) but beware – some of the locals we spoke to reckon the divorce rate among people who’ve done it before is well above average! That might just be local superstition but worth knowing perhaps.
